INSIGNARE is a non-profit association located at Ourém, in the center of Portugal. We have several working areas - two VET secondary schools, with more than 550 students (EPO - Ourem Vocational School and EHF - Fátima Hospitality Vocational School), one local employment centre (GIP, with more than five hundred people enrolled) and one guidance and validation centre (CQEP).

Both schools have diversified teaching staff, full-time and part-time, because as much of the teaching staff is also integrated within the labour market, knowledge and experience of the labour force can be and is transmitted to the students. All the courses are level IV and grant equivalence to 12th grade.

Ourém Vocational School (EPO), founded in 1990, the one involved in this project, has Management, IT and Multimedia, Metalworking, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronic and Electronics courses, following the strategic decision of becoming an industrially focused VET school. EPO is fully equipped with the facilities needed to proper and efficient work environment training.

Although we have VET courses, they also include sociocultural subjects, where national and European citizenship is included within several ones, but mainly “Integration” and “Economy”.

Our students and learners come from two regions, as our municipality is the border between those two - we cover an area of almost half a million inhabitants: the two VET schools have a regional scope, but the employment service is mainly local.

All of our working areas have experience dealing with LLLP and already under Erasmus +, with several projects already approved.

Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Falcone Borsellino

The I.I.S. "Falcone Borsellino" includes three departments: A.F.M.(Administration Finance and Marketing), CAT  (Construction, Environment, Territory) in Palau and Scientific High School in Arzachena in the north-east of Sardinia. It is named  after the two heroic Sicilian Magistrates Falcone e Borsellino who generously devoted their life fighting against Mafia and died tragically in two car explosions. For this reason  the school is involved in projects and activities in order  to preserve the memory of their moral strength and ideas of justice  and to educate  students to be more aware of the importance of legality, active citizenship and personal responsibility.

In specific "Liceo  Scientifico Mossa" is a secondary high school whose main aim is  to prepare students for the  university career,  especially for scientific courses as the basic subjects are Mathematics and Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science). Other subjects are Italian Literature, Latin, English Language and Literature, History, Geography, Philosophy, Physics, History of Art, Physical Education and Religion.

The course of study Costruzioni Ambiente e Territorio ( Building and Environment) has developed in the last five years a steady cooperation with  Ordine dei Geometri (Surveyors Association) of the Province. Training seminars for professionals are regularly held at our school and senior students join them. Third- and fourth-school- year students are also involved in apprenticeships by  local firms or public instititions.

Throughout the decades the school organization has striven  to expand and enrich the activities  to limit the number of “dropout” students (unfortunately Sardinian rate is the highest in Italy) and to adopt measure of prevention. The leading idea is to promote the school as a melting pot of ideas and activities so as to increase the motivation to learn and confidence in  the students and the awareness that knowledge and creativity can be rewarding. Thanks to the teachers’ efforts the school has recorded a reduction of “dropout students”  recently,  but it may not  be enough to overcome other disadvantages such as  living on an island far from the mainland where most of  international conferences  and cultural events take place, or having inadequate material and tools for innovative experiments.
